Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality that utilizes the insertion of hairlike needles to treat various health conditions. It stimulates the body to release natural endorphins that calm the nervous system, so the body can heal on its own.

Acupuncture points are found along meridians, or energy channels that flow all over the body. Pain and organ dysfunction occur when there is stagnation, blockages or deficiencies in this energy flow. Acupuncture regulates and nourishes qi and blood, and brings the body back to homeostasis.

Acupuncture is an incredibly powerful modality for women at all stages of life. It is known to help strengthen the body, boost fertility and regulate the menstrual cycle, promote a natural, healthy pregnancy, balance the nervous system postpartum, and foster an easeful transition into menopause.

Our initial session will take about 90 minutes, and subsequent sessions take about one hour. Chinese Herbal Medicine services can be added to any acupuncture session for a small additional fee.

Please send me an email or reach out to me via my contact page if you have any questions. I look forward to connecting soon.

How many treatments do I need?

Chinese medicine is preventative medicine! Even when there is "nothing wrong," regular appointments are the best thing for your health.

While you may notice improvements after one or two treatments, consistent visits will allow the body to truly heal. Each session will build upon the last.

For most patients, I reccomend starting with twice weekly treatments to stabilize the condition, and tapering to once per week when improvements are evident.  I advise returning to higher frequency sessions if symptoms return. Eventually, sessions can taper to once every two to three weeks, and then to once monthly visits to maintain wellness.

Acute issues may be resolved in as little as five to six treatments. Chronic issues can take twelve or more consistent sessions to fully resolve.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The best answer to this question is no, acupuncture should not cause pain.

The needles I use are soild (not hollow) and as thin as a strand of hair. Some areas of the body are more senstive than others, and most people tend to feel little to nothing, depending on where they are placed.

Some people feel a slight pinch when the needle is inserted, but it goes away quickly

It is normal to feel a dull ache, warmth, a feeling of heaviness or tingling after the needles are insterted, and this is a sign that the treatment is working and the energy or "qi" is moving in the body.

Overall, acupuncture is a deeply relaxing experience.

Alexandra has changed my life!! I got acupuncture from her, which made me feel so much peace. She is really caring and competent. I also worked with her to understand my menstrual cycle. I learned so much about my body, hormones, how I am within each phase. I now plan out my life based on my cycle, it has birthed a version of me that is more aware, connected, loving, and peaceful. Thank you Alexandra!!
